Obituaries

J.H. Eugene Peters, 94, of Collinsville, VA passed away on October 21, 2023, at his residence after a short battle with cancer. He was born on October 6, 1929, in Endicott, VA to the late Harvey Peters and Virgie Booth Peters. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sisters, Geneva Foy, Lera Lloyd, Lessie Vaughn, Rhoda Fulcher, and his brother, Grover Peters.

Mr. Peters was a proud member of Stone Memorial Christian Church and was highly anticipating the day he would be with his Lord & Savior Jesus Christ. Eugene had been a long-time member of Christian Faith Church of Union Bridge, before joining Stone Memorial Christian Church in 2017.

He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Bessie Nichols Peters of Collinsville, VA; son, Jeffrey D. (Brenda) of Bassett, VA; sisters, Clovice Cooper of Ridgeway, VA, and Edith Haskins of Bellview, FL. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Bradley W. Jacobson (Torra), Jeffrey (JD) Peters Jr. (Stacy), Ronald Logan Peters; great-grandchildren, Joshua Jacobson (Valery), Savannah Lumpkin (Tyler), Justin Jacobson, Cheyenne Watson, Luke Peters, and Lyra Peters and a great great-grandchild, Teeghan Watson. Eugene was eagerly awaiting the arrival of two more great great-grandchildren.

Eugene retired from Fieldcrest Mills where he worked for over 39 years. He and his wife enjoyed nothing more than spending time with their grandchildren, playing Rook with the family, and traveling. For more than 25 years he and his wife cooked a family meal every Wednesday for all to enjoy at their home. Eugene was a man of many talents but will be most remembered by the riddles he would recite for the young and old to enjoy!

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Wednesday, November 1, 2023, at Stone Memorial Christian Church, Collinsville at 1:00 p.m. Visitation will be held from 12 noon to 1 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will follow the service at the family cemetery in Endicott, VA.
