Obituaries

Jimmy Thurman Matherly, 91, of Martinsville, VA passed away Monday, October 30, 2023. He was born August 13, 1932 in Pittsylvania County, VA to the late Benjamin Harrison Matherly and Minnie Steele Matherly. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Ruby Smith Matherly; sisters, Martha, Nannie, Gladys, Bertha, Mary, Kathleen, Esther, and Dorothy; and brothers, Willard, Benny, William, J.T., and Frankie.

He is survived by his daughter, Teresa Carolyn Haynes (Randy) of Winston-Salem, NC; special friend, Debbie St. John; and his faithful caregiver, Jackie Moore.

Mr. Matherly was a member of Fuller Memorial Baptist Church and worked for American Furniture for over 40 years.

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, November 2, 2023 at Fuller Memorial Baptist Church with Pastor Fred Hardin, Jr. officiating. The visitation will be prior to the service from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. Burial will be at Roselawn Burial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Southern Area Agency for Aging, Meals on Wheels, 204 Cleveland Ave., Martinsville, VA 24112 or to Fuller Memorial Baptist Church, 1204 S. Askin St., Martinsville, VA 24112.
