Obituaries

Joan Eanes Newman, of Martinsville, passed away on Wednesday, November 5, 2025. Born and raised in Henry County, Virginia, Joan was the daughter of the late Claude S. Eanes and Grace Walker Eanes.

Family was everything to Joan. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Fred L. Newman, Jr.; her sister, Agnes Eanes Aaron; and her brothers, Melvin Eanes, Robert Eanes, and Marshall Wayne Eanes.

She leaves behind a legacy of love and is survived by her devoted son, Reggie Newman, and his wife, Joyce. She was a proud grandmother to Angie Donley and a special aunt to many cherished nieces and nephews who will miss her dearly.

She lived a life of dedication, hard work, and simple pleasures. Joan had a successful career at Tultex, where she worked in the finance department and retired after 39 years of service. She also used her bookkeeping talents in the family business, Newman Lawn Mower Service.

Joan was a devoted member of Mount Calvary Pentecostal Church. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life. She had a wonderful green thumb and found immense joy in gardening, particularly in growing beautiful roses. Her love of flowers led her to become a member of the Patrick Henry Rose Society. Joan will be remembered for her kind spirit, her dedicated work ethic, and her beautiful roses. She brought light to the lives of those around her and will be deeply missed.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, November 9, 2025, at 1 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 2 p.m. at Collins-McKee-Stone Funeral Home, 109 Broad Street, Martinsville, VA. Pastor Gary Shupe will officiate. Her burial will take place at Roselawn Burial Park on Tuesday, November 11, 2025 at 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial donations be made to Mt. Calvary Pentecostal Church - Building Fund, 350 A.L. Philpott Hwy, Martinsville, VA 24112
