Obituaries

John Wayne Roberts, 71, of Axton, Virginia, made his journey to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, June 21, 2025. He was born August 22, 1953, in Martinsville, Virginia, to the late James L. Roberts and Clara Virginia George Roberts.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Mary Bennett, Annie Massey, Dorothy Hairfield; and brothers, J.B. Roberts, Drewry Roberts, and Tommy Roberts.

John was of the Christian faith and was a member of First Assembly of God in Martinsville. He was gifted in carpentry work and could build anything. This carried over into his profession as a heavy equipment operator for Nichols Construction. He also enjoyed working on cars. John was highly intelligent. He never met a stranger which enabled him to make friends easily and help others. He spent his leisure time fishing and loved spending time with his family. Although his earthly presence is no longer with us, the legacy of integrity and love will always be remembered.

Left to honor and cherish his memory are his loving wife, Nancy Catoe Roberts; daughters, Tammy Ayers (Brian), Amanda Graham (Charles); sister Vellie Mae Benson; brother, Samuel Roberts; grandchildren, Natalie Graham and Elijah Graham; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held Thursday, June 26, 2025, at 1:30 PM at Wright Funeral Service Chapel, officiated by Pastor Joe Nunley. Interment will follow at Pleasant Grove Primitive Baptist Church, located at Moorefield Store Road, Stuart, Virginia, 24171. A visitation will be held one-half hour prior to the service.
