Obituaries

Mabel Irene Lamkin, 85, entered her eternal rest Thursday, June 19, 2025, in Reidsville, North Carolina. She was born November 9, 1939, to the late Grady Sanders Cox and Virginia Moore Cox in Ridgeway, Virginia.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her loving husband, Jimmie Hale Lamkin; son, Jimmie Hale “Junior” Lamkin, Jr.; sister, Virgie Cox; brothers, James Cox, Harvey Cox, Charles Cox, Tony Cox, and Joe Cox.

Mabel was of the Christian faith and was known as a lady of prayer. She was employed many years as a deputy clerk for the Virginia General District Court. She enjoyed learning and could often be found reading. She had a way with words, and her poetic writings earned her the nickname “Mrs. Hallmark.” She spent time taking bus tours and even traveled across the United States in 19 days. She was dearly loved and will be missed.

Those left to treasure her memory are her daughter, Brenda Lamkin Mayhew (Scott); sister, Fannie Shrader (Frank); grandson Mark Tyler Mayhew (Tirzah); great-grandchildren, Emma Brielle Mayhew, Caleb Benjamin Mayhew; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A private graveside service will be held at a later date at Cox Family Cemetery with her niece, Linda Lamkin, officiating the service.
