Obituaries

Peggy Renae Via Martin, 52, of Ridgeway, Virginia, passed away Sunday, October 29, 2023. She was born August 31, 1971, in Stuart, Virginia, to the late Ellis Hoover Via and Ida Jane Hagwood Via. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Peonia Via.

She was a member of Progressive Prayer Temple, where she loved attending and held the position of church treasurer. She was a graduate of George Washington Carver High School, and was a dedicated employee of the Department of Social Services with more than ten years’ service as senior trainer. Most important to Peggy was her family and church, whom she loved dearly.

Peggy is survived by her husband, Kelvin Martin; son, Kenyon Martin; sisters, Linda Ann Estes (Early), Mattie Terry (Charlie), Deborah Brown (Leo), and Rita Wade; and brothers, Jessie Clayton Via (Carletta), Roger Via, David Via, and Wallace Via (Sharon).

The funeral will be Sunday, November 5, 2023, at 11:30 AM at Progressive Prayer Temple, 64 Cameron Road, Martinsville, with visitation 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow at the Via Family Cemetery, Lackey Road, Stuart, Virginia. A Floating Visitation will be held Saturday, November 4, 2023, from 4:30 to 6:00 PM, at Wright Funeral Service Chapel, 1425 Greensboro Road, Martinsville.

The family will also receive friends at 103 Eisenhower Road, Ridgeway, Virginia 24148.
