Obituaries

Raymond Lee Brown, 55, of Bassett, Virginia, passed away on Saturday, March 15, 2025, at CJW Medical Center in Richmond, Virginia. He was born on July 22, 1969, in Martinsville, Virginia, to the late Raymond C. Lawson and Shirley Wagoner, who passed away hours after receiving the news of her son. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant child; his grandchild, Raymond A. Stevens; his grandparents; and several aunts and uncles.

Raymond attended Trash Ministries. He also dedicated his time to serving the community as a member of both the Fieldale and Bassett Fire Departments. He also worked for Henry County Parks and Recreation.

He is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Renia M. Brown; his daughter, Niki Brown; his son, Alex Brown; and his cherished grandchild, Stacey Ray Roosevelt Sweatman. He is also survived by his brothers, Ronald Wagoner and Robert Wagoner; sisters-in-law, Linda Roberts, Lola Joyce (Ricky), and Kay M. James; two nieces, Shannon Joyce (Zach) and Amanda Wright; a close friend, Earl Penn; special friend, Ron Finney; as well as a host of other beloved family members and friends.

All services will be private.
