Richard William "Bill" Witt, Jr, 88 of Bassett, VA, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Saturday, March 29, 2025, from his home with his family around him. He was born in Patrick County on September 3, 1936, to the late Richard William Witt and Willie Marie Biggs Witt.

He graduated from Drewry Mason High School in 1955 and served in the United States Air Force for 8 years. He coached Pony League baseball, umpired for many years, and played in the senior softball leagues until he was 80 years old.

He was saved August 11, 1969, and was a faithful servant of God. He was active with many ministries: the bus ministry, visiting the sick and shut in, the youth ministry, Awana and Master Club, soul-winning, singing in the choir, nursing home ministry, coaching church softball, mission trips, faith promise missions, and prayer warrior. He was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sons Stephen Andrew Witt, Philip Nathanael Witt, and Russell William Witt, grandson Robert "Robbie" Toney Wimbish III, brothers Michael Lane Witt, Larry Wayne Witt, and Travis Dean Witt.

He is survived by his wife Susan Witt, daughters Rebekah Sackrider (Colin), Karen Wimbish (Robert), Penny Cox, and Anita Rodriguez, several grandchildren, stepsons James "Jimmy" Edward Scearce, and Timothy Bryan Scearce, sisters Sharon Harris (Fred), Brenda Moore (John), Myrna Knight (Roy), Maxine Lucas, and Marjorie Bowles (Roy). Also, his “fur babies” Yogi and Smokey.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Tabernacle Baptist Church, 2480 Fairystone Park Hwy, Bassett, VA 24055. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 12, 2025, at 11:00am at Tabernacle Baptist Church.
