Obituaries

Shelia Teresa Matherly Weatherman, 64, of Bassett, Virginia, passed away Monday, October 23, 2023, at SOVAH Health of Martinsville. She was born January 13, 1959 in Martinsville, to the late Lewhy Fletcher Matherly and Violet Frances Edwards Wolfe. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sisters, Brenda Jewell, Susan Nightengale and Sandra Prillaman; and brother, Tommy Matherly.

She was a member of Bassett Worship Center. She had a great personality, was compassionate and had empathy for people; she was outgoing, always there for her children and put them first; loved attending worship services and loved music. She enjoyed crocheting and taking classes to learn. She read her Bible a lot and enjoyed being in the Word. And, she loved her dog, Scrappy.

Sheila is survived by her daughters, Melissa Stone (Randy) and Jennifer England (David); sisters, Kathy Martinez and Ginger Matherly Smart; brother, Jeffery Matherly; granddaughter, Breyonna Allen; and her dog, Scrappy.

The funeral will be Monday, October 30, 2023 at 11:30 AM at Wright Funeral Service Chapel, with Pastors Bruce Hagy and Kenny Daniels officiating. Visitation will be 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow at Mountain View Cemetery.
