Obituaries

Shirley S. Hicks, 76, of Ridgeway, Virginia, passed away on October 30, 2023, at the Sovah Health in Martinsville. She was born on September 22, 1947, to the late James Cecil Stone and the late Nellie Setliff Stone. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, David Stone, and one sister, Elizabeth Spears.

She was a member of Amazing Grace Baptist Church in Stoneville, North Carolina, where she was involved in various church ministries. She enjoyed spending time with her family and many friends. She enjoyed growing flowers and going out to eat with a special group of friends every Friday evening.

Shirley is survived by her husband of 53 years, Drewry Hicks; one sister, Susie Stone; and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, November 6, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. at the Bassett Funeral Service Chapel, with Pastor Howard Owens officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. The burial will follow immediately after the service at Mt. View Cemetery in Ridgeway, Virginia.
