Obituaries

Vada R. Southall, 92, of Ridgeway, Virginia, passed away on Saturday, October 21, 2023, at her residence. She was born on September 25, 1931, in Patrick County, Virginia, to the late Henry Lee Rea and Della Rea. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Calvin T. Southall; three brothers, Robert Rea, Cornell Rea, and Evertt Rea; and three sisters, Ada Priddy, Virgie Foley, and Linda Hylton.

Vada was a member of the Church of Christ in Farmville, Virginia. She also was a homemaker, who took pride in taking care of her family.

Vada is survived by her son, Wayne Southall; her daughter, Brenda Turbyfill (Jack); one grandson, Brian Southall (Mehgan); one granddaughter, Michelle Copenhaver (Todd); three great grandchildren, Ashley B. Copenhaver, Harley Copenhaver, and Julianna Southall; three great-great-grandchildren, Alayna Copenhaver, Shaelyn Copenhaver and Kinsley Copenhaver; three brothers Raymond Rea, Russell Rea, and Aubrey Rea; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 26, 2023, at 12 p.m. at Bassett Funeral Service Chapel, with Pastor Tim Woods officiating. A burial will follow immediately after the service at Blackberry Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
