Obituaries

Vernon Marshall Hopkins, 92, of Fieldale, Va. passed away Friday, October 27, 2023. He was born December 7, 1930 to Sanford Lee Hopkins and Velma McGee Hopkins.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Beatrice Stowe Hopkins; his brothers, Alvin Hopkins and Joseph Hopkins; sisters, Lessie Stone, Betty Richardson and Ann Stowe.

He is survived by his son, Kenneth Hopkins (Michelle); daughter, Kimberly Hopkins; grandchildren, Amanda Hopkins Wiseman (Jim) and Kayla Harris (Caitlynne); great grandchildren Marshall and Mason Wiseman; sister, Velma McGee; sisters-in-law, Marie Hopkins and Doris Tuggle.

Mr. Hopkins retired from Fieldcrest Mills where he worked as weaver for 33 years. He loved traveling throughout the country with his family and visited 48 states. He also loved woodworking and fishing.

A floating visitation will be held at Collins Funeral Home in Bassett, Va. from 12:00 pm to 5:00 pm on Sunday, October 29, 2023.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, October 30, 2023 at the Hopkins Family Cemetery, located at 75 Artwood Drive, Rangely, Va. Reverend Dr. J.D. Harmon will officiate the service.
