Victor R. Copening, 64, of Martinsville, Virginia, passed away on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, at Sovah Health–Martinsville. He was born on November 12, 1960, in Martinsville, Virginia, to the late Harold Copening and Dorothy Thomas Hairston, who survives. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his companion, Cecil Dillard.

Victor was a devoted member of Meadow Christian Church. He had a deep love for sports, especially football and basketball, and his competitive spirit made him a joy to watch and be around. Known for his humor and big heart, Victor brought laughter and warmth wherever he went. Above all, he cherished spending time with his family and friends, creating memories that will live on in their hearts.

In addition to his mother, Dorothy Thomas Hairston, Victor leaves to cherish his memory his daughter, Victoria Rumley; sons, Javon Copening and Chad Copening; six grandchildren, Georgina Chigwerewe, Tatiana Chigwerewe, Brianna Chigwerewe, Calaysia Copening, Olivia Chigwerewe, and Jeremiah Wilson; one sister, Sharon Scales; one brother, Robert T. Copening (Melissa); and a host of extended family members and friends.
