‘The Testaments’ explores new coming-of-age story in Gilead with Chase Infiniti and more

The story continues in Gilead, and this time, it’s being told by a younger generation.

The Testaments, a new Hulu series based on the 2019 novel of the same name by Margaret Atwood and set 15 years after the events of The Handmaid’s Tale, focuses on a group of teens who have grown up in the fictional dystopian society of Gilead as they navigate Aunt Lydia’s elite preparatory school for future wives.

“You’ll see how things change over time,” Ann Dowd, who reprises her role as Aunt Lydia in The Testaments, told ABC News. “What happens to these girls in this journey, this coming-of-age story? I think you’re going to find an entirely different experience than you did with ‘The Handmaid’s Tale.'”

Joining Dowd in the new series are Chase Infiniti as Agnes (previously known as Hannah in The Handmaid’s Tale), Lucy Halliday as Daisy, Rowan Blanchard as Shunammite, Mattea Conforti as Becka and Brad Alexander as Garth.

Infiniti began production on The Testaments after working on director Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another, crediting the Oscar-winning film with sharpening her experience in ensemble work.

“I feel very grateful that I get to work with another ensemble, let alone a group of girls who are around my age,” she told Good Morning America at the premiere of The Testaments in Los Angeles on March 31. “I felt so grateful to have been a part of that, because we poured so much love into each other — we poured so much love into the story.”

Elisabeth Moss, who starred as June Osborne in all five seasons of The Handmaid’s Tale before the series wrapped last year, also appears in the new show.

“She loves this project so much and poured so much into it,” Infiniti said, adding that Moss extended her hand to the cast to let them know that if they needed anything, she was there for them.

The first three episodes of The Testaments are available to stream now on Hulu. New episodes will arrive every Wednesday through May 27.

Robin Roberts, Dawn Porter want people to know about Pat Summitt’s caring nature

Poster for ‘Breaking Glass: The Pat Summitt Story’ (ABC News Studios)

The story of legendary Tennessee Lady Vols coach Pat Summitt is told in Breaking Glass: The Pat Summitt Story, now streaming on Hulu and Hulu on Disney+. The documentary follows her journey through her coaching career and features many of the people she impacted. Director Dawn Porter says it also highlights an often overlooked aspect of her legacy.

“Something I think people don’t talk about enough is Pat invited a number of Black women into the University of Tennessee to play for her when that wasn’t that common,” she says. “She didn’t make a big deal of it. … She invited the best players.”

One of those players was WNBA star Candace Parker, who still carries lessons she learned under Pat’s leadership.

“I talked with Candace Parker, who played for Pat, and she said that they were required as Lady Vols to sit in the front row in the classroom. Candace says to this day, when she’s somewhere, she sits in the front row,” says executive producer Robin Roberts. “There were many life skills … that had nothing to do with basketball, but still stays with all these women … decades later.”

With so many meaningful moments embedded in the documentary, Robin hopes viewers walk away understanding how deeply Pat cared.

“I hope people will realize how much she truly cared, not just about the Tennessee Lady Vols, not just about women’s basketball, but how much she truly, truly cared and how she saw you,” she says. “When you were in front of Pat Summitt, you thought you were the only person on earth. She made you feel important. She made you feel seen and heard.”

Dawn adds, “I hope people understand that she was a leader through and through, and she just treated everybody the same. … She was not a person who was only caring about the superstars. She cared about everybody.”

‘Euphoria’ creator honors Eric Dane, Angus Cloud and late producer Kevin Turen at season 3 premiere

Eric Dane appears in a scene from season three of ‘Euphoria.’ (HBO)

Euphoria creator Sam Levinson is dedicating the new season of his hit show to Eric Dane, Angus Cloud and producer Kevin Turen.

At the season 3 premiere of Euphoria in Los Angeles on Tuesday night, Levinson addressed the audience ahead of the screening and paid tribute to the late actors and producer, who died in the years after season 2 aired on HBO.

“Some people ask why it took so long between seasons 2 and 3,” Levinson said, addressing the four-year gap. “There were obvious factors — the [writers and actors] strikes, how to make a schedule work with our very in-demand cast. But the real time was trying to figure out how to find a way to pay respect to those who we lost.”

Cloud, who starred as Fezco in Euphoria seasons 1 and 2, died in July 2023 from an accidental drug overdose. He was 25.

“When Angus died, it was tough. I loved him deeply. And I fought hard to keep him clean,” Levinson said at the premiere.

He also pointed to the opioid epidemic and discussed how it has affected many people across the U.S.

In 2023, approximately 105,000 people died from drug overdose, with 76% involving either an illegal or prescription opioid and 69% involving synthetic opioids other than methadone, “primarily illegally made fentanyl and fentanyl analogs,” according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Approximately 73,000 people died from fentanyl overdoses in 2023, according to the CDC, representing “nearly 92% of opioid overdose deaths.”

“I learned a whole lot that year, but what I realized more than anything is that death is what gives life meaning,” Levinson said at Tuesday’s premiere, referring to Cloud’s death. “You can’t be arrogant about existence. You’re forced to reckon with the fact that life itself is a wonder, a gift, a profound blessing.”

Four months after Cloud’s death, Turen died from multiple heart issues, according to a medical examiner’s report.

Dane, who starred as Cal Jacobs in Euphoria, died in February this year, following a battle with ALS.

Prior to Dane’s death, he returned to his role for the show’s third season. Fans got a preview of his final performance in the season 3 trailer, which was released March 30.

“I’d like to dedicate this season to those who we lost: Angus, Kevin and Eric,” he said. “The Rebbe says, ‘The only way to see great light is to pass through great darkness.’ Well, it feels good to be on the other side.”

Euphoria season 3, starring Zendaya, Jacob Elordi and Sydney Sweeney, will debut on HBO and stream on HBO Max on Sunday.

Whitney Leavitt talks ‘Chicago,’ whether she’ll return to ‘The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives’

Whitney Leavitt and Mark Ballas discuss their starring roles in ‘Chicago’ in an interview that aired April 8, 2026, on ‘Good Morning America.’ (ABC News)

What happens in the ballroom doesn’t always stay there.

After captivating audiences on Dancing with the Stars, Whitney Leavitt and Mark Ballas are back together — only this time they are on Broadway, starring in Chicago at New York City’s Ambassador Theatre.

“If someone would have said a year ago that the two of you would be on the cover of the playbill, Chicago on Broadway, what would your reaction have been?” ABC News’ Will Ganss asked the duo in an interview that aired Wednesday on Good Morning America.

“I probably would have been like, ‘You’re crazy. What? How?'” Leavitt said with a laugh.

“Yeah. Well, I mean, yeah. Speechless,” Ballas added.

Leavitt, who rose to fame on The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, is now leading Chicago to its highest-grossing week in the show’s 30-year history while playing Roxie Hart.

“She’s definitely sassy. She’s very sassy. I’d say sassy, impulsive and always just, like, learning,” Leavitt said of her character.

Asked what she and Roxie Hart have in common, Leavitt replied with a laugh, “Every single one of those things.”

Amid her success on Broadway, Leavitt said she is still deciding what her future looks like on The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, the hit Hulu reality TV show.

“We’re figuring it out in real-time. I don’t really know,” Leavitt said. “I feel sometimes that it’s like time to venture out. Like, this is what I’m passionate about.”

In Chicago, Ballas joins Leavitt as Billy Flynn, following in the footsteps of stars like Patrick Swayze and Usher.

The moment marks a full-circle journey that began during their time on DWTS, when they danced to the song “Cell Block Tango” from the Broadway show.

‘The Boys’ are back, as Karl Urban warns, ‘Don’t get attached to too many characters’

‘The Boys’ season 5 on Prime Video. (Amazon MGM Studios)

The Boys are back for one final fight. The fifth and final season of the Prime Video series premieres Wednesday, and it follows The Boys’ attempt stop the unchecked power of the egomaniacal Homelander. It’s also building to a big finale that Karl Urban, who plays Boys leader Butcher, promises will be satisfying for fans.

“One hundred percent. We’re actually all super-confident of the fact that the rocket ship has landed in a wonderful way,” Urban tells ABC Audio. “We can’t wait for audiences to see the fun, exciting, action-packed season that we’ve got in store for them and also to experience … heartaches along the way.”

Urban warns, “‘Don’t get attached to … too many characters,” adding that there are “consequences being dealt.”

One positive change this season? Karen Fukuhara’s unstoppable character, Kimiko, regained the power to speak at the end of season 4 and can now fully express her personality. “It was just fun to be able to play a new side of Kimiko that we hadn’t discovered,” she tells ABC Audio.

In the premiere, Homelander is running the country and imprisoning those who oppose him in “freedom camps.” Parallels between the show and the real world are inevitable, but Jensen Ackles, who plays Soldier Boy, insists it wasn’t planned, especially since the show was scripted and shot two years ago.

“The show doesn’t necessarily comment on what’s going on … it’s more showing a reflection of what we all see and then turning it on its head in a wild way,” Ackles explains. “But it’s definitely … wild how reflective and how much of a mirror image, certain aspects of the show are in real life.”

The first two episodes of The Boys are now available. Episodes will drop weekly, with the finale streaming May 20.
