Obituaries

Barbara Norris Mitchell, 65, of Martinsville, Virginia, passed away on Saturday, February 3, 2024, at Sovah Health of Martinsville. She was born on June 2, 1958, in Baltimore, Maryland, to the late Franklin Eugene Norris and Lucille Mays Norris.

Barbara was the manager of the kitchen at the Martinsville City Sheriff’s Department; she was a gifted cook. She attended Mountain View Baptist Church, and she loved Jesus. She's a member of the Elk’s Club. She never met a stranger; she often was the life of the party. She was a good Samaritan and enjoyed serving others. She loved spending time with family and friends, especially her grandson and his girlfriend, and fur babies.

Barbara’s favorite quote came from Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.”

Barbara is survived by her husband of 44 years, William “Bill” Mitchell; her mother, Lucille Mays Norris; her son, William Justin Mitchell; her grandson, William “Kolbey” Mitchell (Kaitlyn Hooper); two brothers, Frankie Norris and Doug Norris; two fur babies, Chase and Moe; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family, and friends.

The family will receive friends on Friday, February 9, 2024, at Bassett Funeral Service Chapel from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 10, 2024, at 12:00 p.m. at Bassett Funeral Service Chapel, with Pastor Tim Norris and Brother Richard Arrington officiating. A burial will take place immediately after the service at Mt. Hermon Church of the Brethren.
