Obituary For Betty Jean Turner Lemons

Betty Jean Turner Lemons made her grand entrance into this world on October 9, 1932, in Henry, Virginia.

Betty left her earthly residence at Kings Grant, Martinsville, Virginia and arrived at her heavenly home on Sunday, November 5, 2023.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Frank C. Turner, and Ocie Ingram McGhee as well as her stepfather, Kirk McGhee; sister, Ann McGhee; husband, Clinard Lemons; and grandson, Gerry Lemons. Betty is survived by her three sons, Roy (Carol), Ron (Brenda), and Ken (Melody). She had eight grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson, numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Betty was raised in a loving and Godly home in Henry, Virginia. She was in the last graduating class of Henry High School in 1950. After graduation, Betty started her career with E.I. Dupont and worked there until her early retirement in 1985. The friendships she made there lasted a lifetime. She was a loving and giving person who valued her faith, family, and friends and was always a lady in every aspect of her life. Betty was an avid reader all her life and left her family with a treasury of books to enjoy. She loved learning new things and traveling, taking many trips by bus, riverboat, cruise ship, and airplane. She especially loved riding the backroads (in all seasons) admiring God’s beautiful creation. One of her most favorite things earlier in her life was having cookouts in her back yard with all the family present, playing games and just enjoying being together.

While Betty was blessed beyond measure in so many ways through her family, work, friends, and church, she was so happy and content to be able to live and enjoy her time at King’s Grant. We are so grateful to King’s Grant staff for their passionate and excellent care of Betty from her first day there until her last. We are also grateful to Mountain Valley Hospice staff; we could not have asked anyone to have shown more love and compassion to Betty and her family. We Thank you.

The funeral will be Wednesday, November 8, 2023, at 2:00 PM at Wright Funeral Service Chapel. Burial will follow at Roselawn Burial Park. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers and food, please make donations to the Gideon Society or St. Jude’s.

Lastly, we, her family, thank our heavenly father for all the years we had to love and enjoy this sweet and gentle soul known to us as Mom, Granny Betty, and friend. She will truly be missed.

Wright Funeral Service & Crematory is serving the family.
