Obituary For Charles "Ricky" Ross
Charles “Ricky” Ross, 64, of Bassett, Virginia, passed away on Wednesday, January 31, 2024, at Sovah Health Martinsville. He was born on August 7, 1959, in Martinsville, Virginia, to the late Charles L. Ross and Mary Frances Ross. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Jeffery Lee Ross and Mike Turner; paternal grandparents, Charles T. Ross and Melva Ross; and maternal grandparents, Elder Leonard and Mae Cassell.
Ricky was a member of the Critz Church of God, now known as the Gathering Place. He also visited other places of worship: the Church at Mercy Crossing, Community Baptist Church, and Meadowview A.M.E. Church. He retired from Bassett Walker and was known for his upholstery work. Ricky was an avid lover of riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle with his family and friends. He participated in fundraising events in the local community with other motorcycle riders. He could be found on many Saturday nights with his friends playing cards.
Ricky was extremely close to his children and grandchildren, and he enjoyed spending time with them. He had a special bond with his daughter, whom he called his "baby girl," and his son, who he was proud of for all of his personal accomplishments. His grandchildren, Kiara and Ryan, had a special bond with their “Papa” and took pride in taking care of him.
Ricky is survived by his wife of 44 years, Joyce Shelton Ross; his mother, Mary Frances Ross; one daughter, Brandie Lynn Ross; one son, Charles Brandon Ross; two grandchildren, Kiara Danielle Ross and Ryan Lee Leagans; two sisters, Cindy Ross Spencer and Jennifer Ross Ashworth (Kevin); one aunt, Bonnie Ross; two uncles, Jimmy Cassell and Carl Cassell (Shirley); and a host of nieces, nephews, other family, and friends.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 3, 2024, at Bassett Funeral Service Chapel from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. A memorial service will be held afterwards at 2:00 p.m. at the Bassett Funeral Service Chapel, with Pastor Jason Callahan officiating.
