Obituaries

Donald James Myers, 77, of Ridgeway, Virginia, passed away Tuesday, August 1, 2023, at his residence.

He was born October 7, 1945, in Campbell County, Virginia, to the late Edgar Clarence Myers and Velma Nita Haynes Myers.

He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and served during the Vietnam Conflict and later served in the Army National Guard 116th Infantry and 29th Division. He was a sergeant in the Air Force and served on a C-130 aircraft where he was a crew member, assistant crew chief, and crew chief. He also was an army mechanic. He had been employed by J & J Southeast Container and later Georgia Pacific for 38 years. His last work was as a slitter operator. He was a former member of Kearfott Memorial Baptist Church where he served as deacon. Donald was currently attending South Side Baptist of Ridgeway, Virginia.

He was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans and the VFW. He was also an officer for Martinsville Moose Lodge for 25 years, and was a member of Bassett Moose Lodge at the time of his death, having served over 40 years. He earned the Pilgrim Degree of Merit. He was a member of TPA for more than 16 years; a member of the Martinsville Henry County Honor Guard for more than 20 years.

He was a graduate of Drewry Mason High School.

Surviving are his wife, Pam Foley Myers; a guardian child, Amber Marie Gardner of Ridgeway; sister-in-law, Joyce Holland; nieces, Pam LaPrade, Becky Cruise, and Tina Williams; nephew, Jesse Draper; and a number of cousins.

The funeral service will be Sunday, August 6, 2023, at 3:00 PM at Wright Funeral Service Chapel with Pastor Nolan Johnson officiating. The burial will be Monday, August 7, 2023, at 9:00 AM at Colbert Moran Cemetery in Gretna, Virginia. A Pilgrim Memorial Service and visitation will be held Saturday, August 5, 2023, at 6:00 PM at Wright Funeral Service Chapel, Martinsville.

The family will receive friends at other times at the home of Pam LaPrade, 609 Golf Course Road, Stuart, Virginia.
