Donald Ray Minter, “Donnie”, 75 years of age, passed away Tuesday, November 7, 2023 at his home surrounded by his family.

Donnie was the oldest of four boys to the late Mamie and Bernard Minter of Martinsville, VA.

Donnie was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Kenny Minter, Sr.

Donnie was the owner of Minter’s Racing and Machine Shop where he was known for building racing engines for local, regional, late model stock cars, and smart modifieds in the 70’s, 80’s, 90’s, as well as drag cars.

Donnie loved spending time restoring old Chevrolet cars, watching racing and westerns on television and hosting family and friends every Friday night at his shop in Stanleytown, VA.

Donnie married his love of 57 years, Jeannie on October 10, 1966. They had two daughters, Lynn and Angie.

Donnie is survived by his wife Jeannie; daughters, Lynn Brown (Bruce) and Angie Inman (Mark); two grandchildren Ashton Young (Adrienne) and Parker Inman (Hailey); one great grandchild, Rylan Inman; brothers Jerry and Mike Minter and wives. Also, several nephews and nieces.

Donnie lost his battle to cancer.

Donnie had a great passion for helping children in our area and was a big contributor to the “Bikes for Tikes” program for many years. He felt touched by the children of St. Jude. If you would like to make a donation in Donnie’s honor the link is https://www.stjude.org.

A visitation will be held Monday November 13, 2023 at Collins Funeral Home from 6-8 pm. A celebration of Donnie's life will be Tuesday November 14, 2023 at 11:00 am at Collins Funeral Home, 30 Riverside Drive Bassett, Va. Interment will follow in Roselawn Burial Park Martinsville, va The family is accepting guests at his home, 82 Victory Lane, Bassett, VA 24055.
