Obituaries

Elva Fain Gilley, 99, of Lynchburg, VA, formerly of Axton, VA passed away Sunday, February 4, 2024 at Runk and Pratt in Lynchburg, VA. She was born in Martinsville, VA to the late Clara “Tiny” Conway Fain and S.I. “Ike” Fain. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Herman Lee Gilley, Sr.; sister, Hattie Fain Clark; brothers, Eldridge B. Varner, Curtis E. Fain, and Bronzie R. Fain and great-granddaughter-in-law, Danielle Martin Putz.

She is survived by her daughter, Jean Ponton (Marvin) of Lynchburg, VA; son, H. Lee Gilley, Jr. (Carolyn) of Lynchburg, VA; granddaughters, Jennifer Jarrett (David), Rebecca Pitts (Michael), Kari Putz (Jimi), and Krista Gilley; and great-grandsons, Aaron and Austin Putz. Also surviving are many special nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Gilley was a member of Axton Baptist Church and most recently was a member of

Timberlake Christian Church. She retired as office manager for Dr. S.W. Adams and had previously worked as a library assistant at Axton Elementary School. She was instrumental in helping to get public water brought into the Hobson Rd area of the Axton community.

The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, February 9, 2024 at Norris Funeral Services, Martinsville, VA with Chaplain Wayne Lanham and Pastor David Westmoreland officiating.

Visitation will be prior to the service from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. Burial will follow at Roselawn Burial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Pearson Cancer Center Support Groups c/o Centra Foundation, 1920 Atherholt Rd, Lynchburg, Va 24501 or to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 840692, Dallas, TX 75284.
