Obituaries

Howard Ebenezer McGhee, 80, of Bassett, Virginia, passed away Monday, November 6, 2023, at Stanleytown Heath & Rehab. He was born February 24, 1943, in Henry County to the late Howard McGhee and Ruby Hairston McGhee. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Charles E. McGhee.

He was a graduate of G. W. Carver High School and was owner/operator of McGhee Construction for 30 years. He was a member of Full Gospel Holiness Church, and a former member of Mt. Carmel Holiness in Madison, North Carolina. He was an Eagles fan and former Redskins fan. He enjoyed watching wrestling and was an organist. He played lead guitar for the music group Family Five for 20 years.

Howard is survived by his wife Margaret Dillard McGhee; daughters, Julia M. McGhee, and Karen L. Ross; sons, Kirk L. McGhee (Whitney) and Loren E. McGhee (Renae); sisters, Bubbee McGhee and Natalie McGhee; brothers, Issac McGhee and Marion McGhee (Debbie); eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

There will be a floating visitation November 10th from 12:00 to 5:00 PM at Wright Funeral Service Chapel. The funeral will be Saturday, November 11th at 12:30 PM at Pentecostal Assembly Building, Carver Road, with Pastor Jonta Martin officiating. Visitation will be 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will be at Fair Haven Memorial Park.
