James Dean Cooley, 32, of Bassett, Virginia, passed away on Friday, November 3, 2023, at his residence. He was born on July 30, 1991, in Martinsville, Virginia, to Phillip Wayne Cooley and the late Shelia Dawn Deal Cooley. In addition to his mother, he was also preceded in death by his papa, Joe Deal, his paternal grandparents, Andy and Georgia Bell Cooley, and his cousin Jason Noe.

James was a member of Bassett Worship Center. He loved spending time with his children. He was very talented; he could be found playing the bass guitar, writing and singing songs, writing poetry, and drawing. He also enjoyed fabricating.

James is survived by his wife, Destiny Cooley; two sons, Ryan Kenneth Wayne Cooley and Shawn Alexender Cooley; one daughter, Gracie Nicole Cooley; two brothers, Travis Cooley (Holly) and Dustin Cooley (Jessie); grandmother, Nannie Bobbie Deal; two uncles, Alan Deal and Chris Cooley (Karen); two aunts, Teresa Noe and Lisa Sowder (Ronnie); and his cousins, Eric Noe, Traci Festa, Heather Bridwell, and Wendy Koladish, and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, November 14, 2023, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Bassett Funeral Service Chapel. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, November 14, 2023, at 12:45 p.m. at The Deal Family Cemetery, with Minister Jesse Jones and Pastor Tressi Adams officiating.
