Obituaries

On Wednesday, August 2, 2023, James Douglas “Pete” Dallas, 86, of Kings Rows transitioned from this earthly life to eternal life at Stanleytown Health & Rehab Center. He was born on February 3, 1937, in Virginia to the late Bruce Elgin Dallas, and the late Kitty Mae Jones Dallas.

In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by two brothers, Bruce Dallas, Sr., and Melvin Dallas.

James was a faithful member of Moral Hill Missionary Baptist Church where he sang on the Male Chorus, attended noon day Bible Study, and attended Monday Senior Citizens group meetings. He retired from Fieldcrest Cannons as a machine operator after many years of service. He was a United States Army Veteran, and he was a graduate of Albert Harris High School.

Those left to cherish his memory include his devoted wife, Dorothy Callands Dallas of Martinsville, VA; one brother, Carlton Dallas of Hilton Head, SC; sister-in-law, Shirley Dallas of Martinsville, VA; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

A visitation service will be held on Friday, August 11, 2023, at 11:30 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 12 noon at the C.R.V. Memorial Chapel at Hairston Funeral Home, with Reverend R.P. King, Eulogist. The burial will follow at Carver Memorial Gardens, 1310 Carver Rd., Martinsville, VA. A public viewing will be held on Thursday, August 10, 2023, at Hairston Funeral Home between the hours of 1 p.m. until 5 p.m.
