Obituaries

Mary C. Hodges, 98, of Bassett, VA passed away on Wednesday, November 8, 2023, at her residence. She was born on April 10, 1925, in Virginia to the late Stephen Pleasant Cannaday and Clara Turner Cannaday.

She was a longtime member of Oak Level Baptist Church. Mrs. Hodges was an avid gardener, who loved a variety of flowers. She loved to cook and was known for her homemade pound cake and biscuits.

She is survived by her husband, Homer Landon Hodges, Sr., children, Raymond A. Wingfield (Susan), Mary Frances Lankford (J. Conrad Lankford, deceased) and Homer “Lanny” Hodges, Jr. (Lisa); grandchildren, Randall Wingfield, Kelly Wingfield, Rodney Wingfield, Elan Wingfield, Heather Whitt, and Andrew Hodges. Also, surviving are numerous great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Monday, November 13, 2023, at Norris Funeral Services. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. at Norris Funeral Services on Monday, November 13, 2023, with Rev. Daniel Collins and Rev. Joe Glass officiating. Burial will follow the service at Roselawn Burial Park.
