Oliver Daryl Thompson, 56, of Martinsville, passed away Thursday, October 27, 2022, at his residence. He was born February 17, 1966, in Stuart, Virginia, to the late Houston Thompson and Pansy Lucado Thompson.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Bruce DeGarmo; sister, Rex Anna Bryant; and brother, Ernford Belcher.

Daryl worked as a logger. He enjoyed spending his free time working with old cars, lawnmowers, and doing mechanic work. He was also known for picking up stray dogs and cats and giving them a loving home.

He is survived by his loving wife of thirty years, Mary Gilley Thompson; daughters, Amanda Davis, Nichole “Nicky” Bray and Melissa Pearl Sowers; sons, Jeremiah Gann and James Hoback III; sisters, Ollie Lambert and Doris Foley; brother, Roger Thompson; ten grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

The funeral will be Tuesday, November 1, 2022, at 1:00 PM at Wright Funeral Service Chapel with Pastor Neil Pressley officiating. Visitation will be 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow at Fair Haven Memorial Park.
