Obituary For Robert Clarence (Bob) Hubble
Mr. Robert Clarence (Bob) Hubble, 85, of Collinsville, VA passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, February 3, 2024. He was born April 19,1938 in Radford, Virginia to the late Henry K. and Virginia H. Hubble. Mr. Hubble was a graduate of Virginia Tech and the owner of Reynolds Container Corporation for over 30 years. He was a member of the Martinsville Rotary Club and served on the Board of Patrick Henry Community College and was a Hokie Benefactor.
Mr. Hubble, affectionately known as Bob, Bobby, or “Grandaddy” was a devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. He cherished every moment he spent with his family. He will forever be remembered in the hearts of those who loved him for his kind spirit, patience, and generosity.
Bob was a humble man with an unassuming nature, putting anyone that was lucky enough to be around him at ease. Though often quiet and reflective, Bob was a true conversationalist at heart, with a quick-witted sense of humor.
He was intellectual and inquisitive and could chat for hours about what was going on in the world. Although technology was a source of frustration for Bob (he often remarked how his cell phone brought “chaos to his soul”), he embraced it to stay connected with those he loved. Once you got him talking about Hokie sports, it was hard to get him to stop. Bob was a dedicated fan and supporter of Hokie Athletics throughout his life, spending falls in Lane Stadium and winters in Cassell Coliseum.
Summers were a cherished time for Bob and his beloved wife Nancy (“Gran”), as they created lasting memories in Emerald Isle, NC with family. Bob enjoyed spending long days on the beach, surf-fishing and teaching his granddaughters how to bait a hook and cast a line. He was known to put down a dozen oysters in half-a-dozen minutes. The only thing he liked more than cold-water oysters was an even colder Budweiser.
His legacy lives on in the warmth of those summers and the spirited cheers echoing through Hokie stadiums. But his greatest legacy is the love that he showed to his family, a true testament to a life well lived. His family will forever hold a deep admiration and respect for the kind and honorable man he was – a man who truly led by example and exceeded expectations of those he met along the way. His greatest priority was to give his family a good life, security for the future, and the knowledge that they were immensely loved.
Though sometimes indecisive, Bob decided it was a good time to join Nancy in heaven Saturday morning - it had been too long since they shared coffee and a ham biscuit together.
Bob is survived by his brother Henry K. (Buddy) Hubble of Moravian Falls, NC, two adoring daughters, Melissa Renz (Rick) of Martinsville, VA, and Ginger Bailey (Brad) of Midlothian, VA, along with his four beautiful granddaughters Aynsley R. Johnson (Mark) of Atlanta, GA, Hayden R. Smith (Patton) of Roswell, GA, and Margaret R. Bailey and Anne C. Bailey of Washington, DC.
The family would like to thank Mountain Valley Hospice with a special acknowledgement to Katherine and Sherri for their graceful and loving care. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Feeding Southwest Virginia or Mountain Valley Hospice.
A graveside service will be held Wednesday, February 7, 2024, at 11:00AM at Roselawn Burial Park.
