Obituaries

Roger Wayne McGuire, 69, of Axton, Virginia, passed away on Sunday, July 30, 2023, at his residence. He was born on August 11, 1953, to the late Roy Everson McGuire and Viola Mae Evans, in Riner, Virginia. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Luke McGuire; grandson, Zachariah McGuire; sisters: Sue Adkins, Diane Hunt, and Ruby Dillon; and brothers: Charles McGuire, James McGuire, and Willie McGuire.

Roger was a member of Valley Chapel Pentecostal Holiness Church, and he enjoyed the fellowship he found there. He also loved spending time with his family and friends, farming, raising chickens, going to car shows, hunting, fishing, and working on cars. He also enjoyed watching westerns, eating pizza and mashed potatoes, and cheering on the Washington Redskins.

Roger is survived by his loving wife, Deloris Lewis McGuire; daughters, Samantha Whitley (Evan), Bethany Roberston; son, Jeffrey McGuire; brother, Kenny McGuire (Martha); and his nine grandchildren: Summer McGuire, Hailey McGuire, Paris McGuire, Emmie McGuire, Abel Cahoon, Jasper Roberston, Allison Roberston, Natalie Whitley, and Ezra Whitley, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family and friends.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, August 9, 2023, at 12:00 PM at Bassett Funeral Service Chapel. Burial will be at Henry Memorial Park immediately following the service. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service.
