Obituaries

On Saturday, August 5, 2023, Mother Sallie F. Lampkins, 98, of Martin Ln., Axton transitioned from this earthly life to eternal life at Martinsville Health & Rehab Center. She was born on June 8, 1925, in Franklin Co., VA, the daughter of the late George Turner, Sr., and the late Sallie Dodson Turner.

In addition to her parents, Sallie was preceded in death by her husband, Walter H. Lampkins; one son, Louis Lampkins; one granddaughter, Tammy Lampkins; one brother, George Turner, Jr., and four sisters, Willie Willis, Lee Kilpatrick, Annie M. Gravely, and Easter Hill.

Mother Lampkins was a faithful member of the Refuge Center of Deliverance Church until her health began to decline. While at Refuge Center of Deliverance Church, Mother Lampkins was active in various capacities within the church. She served as the Church Mother, a Missionary, and as a member of the Culinary Department. She retired as a Domestic Worker after many years of service for the Hood family.

Those left to cherish her memory include five daughters, Ann C. Moyer, and Dorothy Hairston both of Axton, VA, Frances Lampkins and Betty Lampkins both of Martinsville, VA, and Katherine Lampkins of Axton, VA; one son, Walter Lampkins of Axton, VA; twenty-seven grandchildren; forty-four great-grandchildren; fifteen great great-grandchildren; four special children, Neil Hood, Ellan Hood, Julia Hood, and Anna Hood; god daughter, Patricia Giles; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

A visitation service will be held on Thursday, August 10, 2023, from 1:30 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 2 p.m. at Refuge Center of Deliverance Church with Elder Percy Wilson, Eulogist. The burial will follow at the Refuge Center of Deliverance Church Cemetery, 718 Stoney Mountain Rd., Martinsville, VA. A public viewing will be held on Wednesday, August 9, 2023, at Hairston Funeral Home between the hours of 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. Other times, the family will be receiving friends at the home, 300 Martin LN., Axton, VA.
