Obituary For Thomas H. Martin
On Wednesday, August 2, 2023, Thomas H. Martin, 84 of Linda Dr., Martinsville, transitioned from this earthly life to eternal life. He was born on April 7, 1939, to the late Samuel Henry Martin, and the late Esther Brooks Martin.
In addition to his parents, Thomas was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Noel Martin, and his brother, Henry Clay Martin, and his brother-in-law, Andrew F. Noel.
Thomas became a baptized member of New Light Baptist Church, Ridgeway, VA. While at New Light he served as a Deacon, sang with the Men’s Choir, and was a member of the Sunday School. In 1999, Thomas moved his membership to Rising Star Baptist Church, Eden, NC where he served as a Deacon, sang with the Men’s Choir, and was a member of the Sunday School.
Thomas served in the United States Coast Guard, and he retired after thirty-one and a half years from E.I. Dupont.
Those left to cherish his memory include three daughters, Wilhelmina A. Hairston (Grant) of Martinsville, VA, La-Tonia M. Martin of the home, and Delfonte’ M. Duncan (Nathaniel) of Kernersville, NC; one son, Jaran A. Martin (Katrinea) of Rocky Mount, VA; six grandchildren, Jacole Hairston and Jamina Hairston both of Martinsville, VA, Jaemaya Fulton of Kernersville, NC, Jayron Smith, Jace Martin, and Jaylen Martin all of Rocky Mount, VA; one great-grandson, Ja’Kai McGuire of Martinsville, VA; one sister, Emma-Louise Martin of Martinsville, VA; one sister-in-law, Helen M. Noel of Martinsville, VA; and a host of other relatives, and friends.
Thomas enjoyed working hard, washing cars, doing yard work, and taking care of his family. His highlight was being in the presence of his grandkids. He was highly loved by the members of Rising Star Baptist Church and everyone he encountered.
A visitation service will be held on Tuesday, August 8, 2023, at 11:30 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 12 noon at the C.R.V. Memorial Chapel at Hairston Funeral Home, 301 Fayette St., Martinsville. The burial will follow at Carver Memorial Gardens, 1310 Carver Rd., Martinsville, VA. A public viewing will be held on Monday, August 7, 2023, at Hairston Funeral Home between the hours of 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. Other times, the family will receive friends at the home, 64 Linda Dr., Martinsville, VA.
