Lou Whitaker has been named to the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame. Whitaker is a 1975 graduate of Martinsville High School, played for Ferrum, and then was drafted in his first year to Detroit, where he played for 19 years. His jersey was retired by the Tigers in 2022.
