‘The Super Mario Galaxy Movie’ shows off Yoshi in new trailer, moves up release date

Luigi, Yoshi, Mario and Toad in ‘The Super Mario Galaxy Movie.’ (Nintendo, Illumination)

Fans of Mario and Luigi will get to see their upcoming sequel film — and Yoshi — a little earlier than expected.

Illumination and Nintendo have moved up the release date of The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. The animated film will now release in theaters on April 1, instead of the previous date of April 3.

A brand-new trailer for the film also shows off the first look at one of the most-anticipated characters to join the animated film universe, Yoshi. The green dinosaur appears for the first time in the new trailer, which was released on Sunday.

The trailer finds Mario and Luigi riding motorcycles through a desert land. They arrive inside an ancient structure searching for “the problem,” only to find Yoshi instead.

“Hey, it’s alright,” Mario tells a scared Yoshi, who then appears to befriend the two brothers.

The trailer ends with Toad meeting Yoshi.

“Um, who is this?” Toad asks Mario and Luigi of Yoshi.

Yoshi uses his tongue to steal a candy apple out of Toad’s hand, before introducing himself.

“So, some dinosaur just shows up and he’s now part of the group? Cool,” Toad says.

This new film is inspired by the Super Mario Galaxy video games, which find Mario and friends in the cosmos.

The voice actors from the previous film are returning to voice the roles they originated. Chris Pratt is back as Mario, Charlie Day returns to play Luigi, Anya Taylor-Joy is voicing Princess Peach, Jack Black will voice Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key is back as Toad and Kevin Michael Richardson will voice Kamek.

Additionally, Brie Larson has been tapped to voice Princess Rosalina, while Benny Safdie will portray Bowser Jr.

Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic directed The Super Mario Galaxy Movie from a screenplay by Matthew Fogel.

We now know who will take over Prue Leith‘s spot as the new judge on The Great British Bake Off.

The popular baking competition show has announced that Nigella Lawson will be the new judge on the program.

“We’re delighted to announce that Nigella Lawson is joining The Great British Bake Off as our new judge!” the show’s official account wrote in its Instagram announcement.

Along with a photo of Lawson, the account shared a statement from the food writer and TV chef about how she feels to be joining the show.

“I’m uncharacteristically rather lost for words right now! Of course it’s daunting to be following in the footsteps of Prue Leith and Mary Berry before her, great dames both, but I’m also bubbling with excitement,” Lawson said.

She called Bake Off “more than a television programme, it’s a National Treasure – and it’s a huge honour to be entrusted with it.”

“I’m just thrilled to be joining the team and all the new bakers to come. I wish the marvellous Prue all the best, and am giddily grateful for the opportunity!” Lawson continued.

The Great British Bake Off, which goes by the name The Great British Baking Show on Netflix, is also judged by Paul Hollywood. The program is hosted by Alison Hammond and Noel Fielding. Leith joined the show in 2017, replacing the original judge, Berry.

Leith shared her excitement for Lawson in the post’s comment section.

“I was so hoping it would be Nigella! Brilliant choice,” Leith wrote.

Many Bake Off winners and British stars sent well wishes Lawson’s way in the comments — including Paddington Bear’s official Instagram account.

“Dear Nigella. First of all, congratulations. Second of all, please can we make a formal request for a marmalade week?” the famous British bear wrote.

Delroy Lindo opens up after receiving 1st Oscar nomination at 73

Academy Award nominee Delroy Lindo on “Good Morning America” on Jan. 23, 2026. (ABC News)

Acclaimed actor Delroy Lindo is opening up about receiving his first Oscar nomination at the age of 73.

“It feels terrific,” Lindo said on Good Morning America Friday. “I’m still processing, if I’m really honest, but it’s wonderful. And part of my response has to do with how positive everybody else’s response has been. A lot of support, a lot of love. It feels really good.”

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences nominated Lindo on Thursday for best supporting actor for his role as blues musician Delta Slim in the Ryan Coogler horror film Sinners.

Although Lindo has been acting for over five decades, he said playing Delta Slim didn’t come easy for him.

“The musical aspect — the piano, the keyboard and the harmonica — it’s a different side of the brain,” Lindo said about playing the musician. “So I would be at the keyboard practicing, and I had some incredible musicians who helped me, but I was aware — sometimes the mind and the fingers, they don’t line up well.”

Ahead of the Oscar nominations this week, Lindo said the buzz was hard to ignore but he tried to do so anyway.

“I was trying to maintain a certain distance, because I was not sure of what would happen,” Lindo said. “It’s difficult to not have it on your mind. But I was trying as much as I could to just let it be what it was going to be.”

Sinners received a record-breaking 16 nominations on Thursday, the most in Oscars history. Lindo said he “had no idea” the movie would resonate with audiences so much.

He added that he was in bed when he found out he had been nominated.

“My son called me. I was in bed,” Lindo recounted. “I was kind of halfway between being asleep and waking, and the phone rang, and I picked it up, and my son was on the other line, and it’s perfect that I got the news from him.”

“Ryan and I had a long talk, and in true Ryan fashion, he just wanted to talk about me,” Lindo said.

Coogler is nominated for several awards, including best director and best original screenplay, for Sinners.

Coogler, his wife, Zinzi Coogler, and frequent collaborator Sev Ohanian are also up for the best picture Oscar.

Lindo expressed his excitement for the director.

“I don’t have the words to articulate how thrilled I am for [Coogler], because from the very first time I read the script, I saw what he was trying to do, and it’s extraordinary that audiences have embraced it and embraced his vision,” he said.

Sinners was released in April 2025 and returned to theaters in the fall for Halloween. The movie is coming back to theaters again amid awards season, returning to select IMAX 70mm locations the weekend of Jan. 30, according to an IMAX spokesperson.

The 98th Academy Awards will be held March 15 at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. The awards will be televised live on ABC and streamed live on Hulu beginning at 7 p.m. ET.

Our first look at Jason Momoa in character as the antihero Lobo has arrived.

DC Studios co-head James Gunn posted a new video teaser showing off Momoa’s take on Lobo, whom he portrays in the upcoming film Supergirl, to Instagram on Friday.
