Martinsville man arrested after pursuit

On August 3, 2024, at approximately 3:18 pm, a Henry County Sheriff’s Office deputy initiated a traffic stop on a red Ford Ranger truck on Horsepasture Price Rd.

The driver of the Ford Ranger ignored the deputy’s emergency lights and siren while accelerating its speed. A pursuit ensued down Horsepasture Price Rd with speeds reaching as high as 80 mph.

During the pursuit, the driver of the Ford Ranger drove very recklessly. He overtook several vehicles on double yellow lines, drove into oncoming traffic, and forced vehicles off the roadway. The pursuit continued on Horsepasture Price Rd and entered into North Carolina.

As the Ford Ranger made a right turn onto Martinsville Loop, the deputy performed a Precision Immobilization Technique (P.I.T. maneuver). The P.I.T. maneuver was performed successfully and the Ford Ranger lost traction with the roadway and slid into a ditch on the shoulder of the road. When the truck hit the ditch it rolled onto its side where it came to a stop. The driver of the truck was taken into custody without further incident.

There was a female passenger in the vehicle as well. She sustained a minor laceration to the back of her head. She was transported by rescue to UNC of Rockingham where she was treated for the minor injury and released from the hospital.

The driver of the Ford Ranger was identified as Otis Lee Hill Jr., 51, of 33 Wisteria Lane, Martinsville. Hill had multiple outstanding felony warrants. In addition to being arrested for the outstanding warrants, Hill was also charged with felony eluding police and obstruction of justice.

Hill was jailed in the Henry County Adult Detention Center without bond.
