Obituaries

Barbara Rea, 87, of Fieldale, Virginia, passed away on Monday, December 11, 2023, at Roanoke Memorial Hospital. She was born on August 16, 1936, in Virginia, to the late Thelma Lucy Snow. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, John L. Gilliam, and one daughter, Helen Boyd.

Barbara was a licensed beautician for more than 50 years. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, especially during the holidays, when she would prepare heartfelt dinners for all to enjoy. She was a lover of animals, both cats and dogs; she treated them just like family. She loved listening to country and gospel music, painting, gardening, and visiting yard sales whenever the opportunity presented itself, and you could count on her having a cup of coffee in her hand while enjoying all that she did.

Barbara is survived by three sons, Cristopher J. Rea (Hope), Michael S. Rea, and Joel Lester Rea; a daughter she took in as her own, Sherrie Wright; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
