Obituaries

Bonnie F. Shelton, 76, of Bassett, Virginia, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 21, 2023, at her residence. She was born on February 5, 1947, in Roanoke, Virginia, to the late Burke Chitwood and Virginia L. Crouse. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an uncle, Joe Blackweller, and an aunt, Elsie Blackweller.

Bonnie was a member of Fort Trial Baptist Church. Bonnie was a craft maker; she was a vendor at the Bassett High School Craft Show for 17 years. Bonnie enjoyed cooking, going to the beach, watching birds, and shopping, especially on Amazon. She loved her family, but her granddaughter, Summer, had a special place in her heart. For 17 years, she was the focal point of her life.

Bonnie is survived by her husband of 40 years, Sammy Shelton; one son, Matthew Shelton (Janice); one daughter, Stacy Minter (Johnny); five grandchildren, one great-grandchild; two sisters, Donna Curry (Carl) and Vickie Snead (Joey); and a host of nieces, nephews, and other family and friends.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, November 25, 2023, from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Bassett Funeral Service chapel. A memorial service will begin at 3:00 p.m. at the Bassett Funeral Service chapel, with Pastor Tony Beach officiating.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Fort Trial Baptist Church, 170 Oak Level Rd, Stanleytown, VA 24168.
