Obituaries

Brooksie Mae Mize, 87, Bassett, passed away on Wednesday, December 21, 2022 at her home. She was born on May 21, 1935 in Martinsville to the late Ellen Smith Vaughn and the late Russell Smith. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, James Elbert Mize; sons, William “Billy” Mize, Russell Mize, Leonard Mize, Johnny Mize and Jesse Mize; brothers, Albert Smith and William Vaughn; son-in-law, Billy Wilson; five grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

She was a member of New Covenant Fellowship Church in Bassett where she was the oldest living member. She was the Life Liners Director (Children’s Program), Sunday School Teacher, Youth Group Assistant and she helped with the Women’s Ministry. Brooksie enjoyed playing the guitar and singing in Church.

Brooksie is survived by daughters, Lillie Thomas and Judy “Dumpy”Wilson; sister, Geneva Martin; thirty eight grandchildren; sixty seven great grandchildren; ten great great grandchildren; fur babies, Woofers, Snoopy and Bandit.

The family will receive friends and family from 10:00 to 11:00 am on Wednesday, December 28, 2022 at the New Covenant Fellowship Church in Bassett with a funeral service to follow at 11:00 am with Pastor Neil Pressley officiating. The burial will follow the funeral service at Fairview Cemetery in Liberty, NC.
