Obituaries

Charles Jackson Helms, 82, of Critz, Virginia, passed away Wednesday, January 1, 2025, at his residence. He was born on December 29, 1942, in Henry County, Virginia, to the late Charles Roosevelt Helms and Vergie Ann Prillaman. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Emily Frances Rakes Helms; and his brother, David Helms.

Charles was a devoted member of the Baptist faith and a longtime, dedicated employee of Hooker Furniture, where he worked before retiring. He proudly served his country in the United States Army. He had a passion for fishing, enjoyed the beauty of the outdoors, and treasured the moments he spent with his family.

He is survived by one son, John David Helms (Tina), three grandchildren, John David Helms, Jr., Kimberly Helms Stout (Dave), and Charles Edward Helms; two sisters, Betty Hall and JoAnn Fulcher Helms

The funeral will be held Tuesday, January 7, 2025, at 12:00 PM at Bassett Funeral Service Chapel. The visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at Shady Rest Cemetery.
