Dolly Ashworth Bates of Mountain Valley (Axton) passed away at the age of 85 on November 14, 2023. She was born on May 28, 1938 to the late Oscar and Berti Ashworth. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by 10 siblings and her son, Brian Lane Bates.

Dolly is survived by her husband of 68 ½ years, Leonard L. Bates; three of her children, Donna Hankins, Randy Lee Bates, and Jody Bates; and one brother Leroy Ashworth.

Dolly enjoyed a good life with her family. She was a private pilot and an accomplished artist.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, November 19 at McKee Stone Funeral Home, 109 Broad Street, Martinsville, VA from 2:00 – 4:00 pm.
