Obituaries

Dorothy Virginia Roop, 95, of Fieldale, Virgina, passed away Wednesday, May 7, 2025. She was born on December 31, 1929, to the late Samuel Clifton Wilson and Pearl McCroskey Wilson.

In addition to her parents, Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband, Willie Jackson Roop; sister, Kate Daniels; and brothers, James Franklin “Bug” Wilson and Alva Harold Wilson.

Dorothy was of the Baptist faith and attended Faith Fellowship. She was a graduate from Wallace High School and earned an associate’s degree from Montreat & Cornett Business College. You knew immediately if you were loved or not by Dorothy. She was a hard worker who worked her entire life. She loved to cook, watch others enjoy her meals and would feed the world if she could. She made an amazing apple pie and always ensured food was on the table, whether it was bread or desert. She made sure her son, Charles, had a good work ethic and took care of the people in their lives. Dorothy tackled everything that crossed her path whether it was fixing the tractor or milking the cows. She was the kind of woman who put everyone before herself and took care of everyone.

She is survived by her son, Charles Roop (Patricia); grandson, Christopher William Roop (Samantha), great-grandchildren, Cody William Roop and Cadence “Cadee” Roop; step great-grandchildren, Joshlynn Talbott and Tommy Lee Ganell III; nephew, David Wilson (Barbara); niece, Nancy Wilson Gwin (Susan), nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 10, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Wright Funeral Service Chapel with Pastor Freddie Bonds officiating. A visitation will be held on Friday, May 9, 2025, at Wright Funeral Service Chapel from 5:30 to 7:00 PM as well as one hour prior to the service on Saturday. Burial will follow the service at Patrick Memorial Gardens.
