Obituaries

Floyd McKinley Ashworth, age 89 of Bassett, VA passed away on December 29, 2023.

Mr. Ashworth was born on November 7, 1934 in Henry County to the late N. Burton Ashworth and the late Minnie Mitchell Ashworth. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Rose Wall Ashworth, sister, Geneva Ashworth and brother, Ernest Ashworth. He was retired from Bassett-Walker. He was a life long member of First Baptist Church of Bassett where he was Choir Director for many years and a member of the Joy Group. He was founder of Southern Gospel Group “Joyful Sound”, he enjoyed golfing, fishing, bowling and singing.

Mr. Ashworth is survived by three daughters, Sharon Minish (Jamie), Jan Johnson, Vickie Dunford (Donald), two sons, Tim Ashworth, Andy Ashworth (Emilie), four sisters, Marie Aldridge (Eugene), Nancy Roach (Posey), Emma Dean Joyce (Tommy), Shirley Pearson, one brother, Earl Ashworth (Bette), nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

A visitation will be held on Friday, January 5, 2024 at First Baptist Church of Bassett from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM with a funeral service to follow at 12:00 PM with Reverend Doug Ramsey officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Burial Park.

The family would like to thank his special caregivers, Betty, Mildred, Teeny, Gayle and Angela for the loving care that they provided for their love one.
