Obituaries

Harriet L. Walker, 89, of Bassett, Virginia, passed away on Sunday, November 19, 2023. She was born on March 3, 1934, to the late John Fred Ellis and Mary Elizabeth Ellis in Stokes County, North Carolina. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dickerson O. Walker; one son, Timmy Neil Walker; one grandson, Philip Sterling; three brothers, John Ellis, Marion Ellis, and James Ellis; a stepbrother, Odell Ellis; two sisters, Maddie Keith and Ola Venerable; and a stepsister, Grace Clayton.

Harriet was the co-owner of Walker Brothers Septic Tank Service. Harriet was a member of the Collinsville Baptist Church. She believed in Jesus Christ for everlasting life and was a faithful follower. Harriet's main joy was her family; she enjoyed helping them in any way that she could. She was a lover of animals; if she found an animal, she would try hard to find its owner; if she was unsuccessful, she would take them in as her own.

Harriet is survived by two daughters, Christine Perdue and Brenda Sterling (Philippe); one son, Daniel Walker (Angelisa); eight grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren; three brothers, Milton Ellis, Ben Ellis, and Paul Ellis; and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, November 27, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at the Bassett Funeral Service Chapel, with Pastor Payton Gilbert officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. A burial will be held at Henry Memorial Park immediately after the service.
