James "Claude" Carter, 96, of Bassett, passed away on Saturday, November 26, 2022 at Senior Citizen Village in Dunn, NC. He was born in Henry County on November 15, 1926 to the late George Murray Carter and to the late Flora Harris Carter. James was also preceded in death by his wife, Jean Smith Carter brothers, George Carter, John Robert Carter, Lem Carter, and Grady Carter; sisters, Ada Spencer, Lilly Ann Carter, Mary Lou Esther Carter and Irene Ingram.

Claude served his country in the United States Army during World War II. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Bassett.

Claude is survived by daughter, Cynthia Sawyer of Clayton, NC; grandson, Carter White (Hady); great grandchild, Everly Jean White and brother. Frank Carter. Donations may be made to Senior Citizen Village, 504 Canal Drive, Dunn, NC 28334.

The family will receive friends and family from 1:00 to 2:00 pm on Friday, December 2, 2022 at First Baptist Church of Bassett where a funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 pm with Doug Ramsey and Monroe Light officiating. Burial will follow the funeral service at Roselawn Burial Park.
