Obituaries

James Morris McGuire Sr., 89 of Axton, VA went to be with his Savior on May 8,2025. He was born on December 6, 1935.

James was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, and much more. James was an active member of Mount Vernon Baptist Church his entire adult life. He was a dedicated member of Axton Lifesaving Crew for over 10 years.

He retired from Coca Cola and Canteen vending. James enjoyed driving the church bus, serving his community by driving the ambulance, watching NASCAR and Washington Redskins play football, and spending time with his family.

James was also a diehard Ford man. James will be remembered most for his willingness to help and serve others along with sense of humor.

He is proceeded in death by his parents, Roy and Virginia McGuire; his wife, Estelle McGuire and his sisters, Vera Haley, Doris Herndon, Nancy Robertson and Barbara Harris.

He is survived by his sons, Jimmy McGuire (Retha) and David McGuire; granddaughters, Ginny Haynes and Danielle McGuire; great grandchildren, Ayden, Natalie, Willow, Dominus, and Daenerys. He is also survived by several cousins, nieces, and nephews.

A visitation will be held from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Friday, May 9, 2025, at Mount Vernon Baptist Church. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, May 10, 2025, at Mount Vernon Baptist Church and will be officiated by Pastor Dean White, Reverend George Agnew and Reverend Robbie Benefield.
