Obituaries

Jean P. Jackson of Ridgeway, VA passed away surrounded by family on Tuesday, November 21, 2023. Born on October 29, 1937 Jean worked in local factories and contributed to Martinsville-Henry County’s booming textile and furniture manufacturing industry of the late 20th century.

She is preceded in death by her parents Charlie and Mary Pickurel; husband Robert Jackson, brother, Doug Pickurel, and sisters Patsy Martin and Nancy Mize.

She is survived by her sons Richard Harris, Darrell Harris (Lisa), Mike Harris (Mindy), daughter Terri Simms (Tommy Harrison), grandchildren, Charlie Harris (Shayna), Jason Harris, Mikey Harris, Sierra Harris, Beth Simms-Smith (Kyle), Stephanie Hodges (Dustin), and great-grandchildren Alexis and Desmond Harris, Tyler Harris, Cheyanne Harris, and Alysse, Brenna, and Tripp Barrow.

She dedicated much of her life to being a caretaker to her children, grandchildren, and later in life her husband Robert Jackson and sisters Pat and Nancy.

Being the social butterfly that she was she enjoyed her last years in Rocky Mount, VA at Franklin Health & Rehabilitation Center attending daily activities and being a friend to patients and staff. She loved going out to eat and just a few weeks ago was able to enjoy a trip along the Blue Ridge Parkway to take in the beautiful fall foliage for her 86th birthday. The family extends heartfelt gratitude, particularly to Megan and Lynn for the extra special care they provided to our Granny Jean, and to the entire Franklin Health staff for fostering a sense of home. Additionally, sincere thanks go to the dedicated staff at Carilion Franklin Memorial for their unwavering attention and care during Jean’s final days.

She was a member of Mica Road Baptist Church.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 25, 2023 at the Mountain View Cemetery, Ridgeway, VA, with Pastor Jeff Evans officiating.

The family appreciates Terri Simms for her dedicated care of Pat, Nancy, and Jean over the past 10 years.
