Obituary For Jesse Leon Carter

Jesse Leon Carter, a gentle soul whose life was a testament to the enduring power of love, departed from this world on November 29, 2023 at the age of 87. Born on March 21,1936, he faced life's challenges with a grace and kindness that left an indelible mark on the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him.

From a young age, Leon faced the adversity of being unable to speak until the age of 7. Despite this early obstacle, he demonstrated remarkable perseverance and determination. Overcoming some limitations of a severe speech impediment, he found a powerful voice within, expressing his thoughts and emotions with a depth that resonated far beyond words.

At the age of 12, Leon faced the physical challenges of polio with unwavering courage. Despite the toll on his body, he embraced life with an indomitable spirit, inspiring those around him with his ability to radiate joy, kindness, and compassion in the face of hardship.

Leon was preceded in death by his only child Carmelita, and she brought immeasurable joy to him. He embraced fatherhood with an overflowing heart, and as Carmelita grew, so did the love and connection between father and daughter, creating a bond that would endure a lifetime.

Leon became the doting grandfather to two beautiful granddaughters, Lyric and Lauryn. The laughter and love shared with Lyric and Lauryn will leave a legacy of warmth and compassion forever.

Leon was born in Henry County Va, to the late John Alfred and Lula Hodge Carter. In addition to his parents and daughter, Leon was preceded in death by four sisters, Rubena Rossley, Bessie Mitchell, Juanita Whyte, and Ivy Jean Brown; and four brothers, Thomas Alvin Carter, William Harold Carter, John Edward Carter, and James Monroe Carter.

Those left to cherish his memory include his two grandchildren, Lyric Hale Taylor (Dontay) and Lauryn Dorothy Hale of Atlanta Ga., and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends who loved and cared for him deeply.

The family would like to express their appreciation to Franklin Health and Rehabilitation Center in Rocky Mount, Va. Leon curried the favor of many staff members who were kind, considerate, loving and attentive. We appreciate all that you did for him and it will never be forgotten.

A family visitation will be held Saturday, December 9, 2023, at 10:30 with a Home-going service to celebrate the life of Leon to be held immediately after at 11:00 am at the C.R.V.
