Obituaries

Joe Willie Moyer, Jr., 78, of Ridgeway, passed away Tuesday, November 15, 2022 at Blue Ridge Nursing Center in Stuart. He was born December 10, 1943 in Henry County to the late Joe Willie Moyer, Sr. and Clara Ann Tinsley Moyer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Lula Moyer; and brothers, Henry, Lloyd, James, Willie, and Cornell Moyer.

He graduated from Henry County Public Schools and proudly served his country in the United States Army. He had been employed by Hooker Furniture as a supervisor for 31 years. He was a member of Star of Bethlehem Way of the Cross Church; enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family. He enjoyed playing and teaching lead guitar and harmonica. He taught Sunday School and Bible Study.

Joe is survived by his daughter, Laurie Watkins; grandson, Kelvin Smith; sisters, Mae Moyer, Neather Thomas (Charlie), Peggy Moyer and Marie Artis; brothers, Floyd Moyer (Emma) and Bud Moyer; grandchildren, Karla Gaddy and Marie Strange; and four great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be Monday, November 21, 2022 at 12:00 pm at Wright Funeral Service Chapel with visitation 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow the service at Moyer Family Cemetery, 697 Moyer Lane, Axton, Virginia.
