Obituaries

Kenneth France, 75, of Martinsville, Virginia, transitioned from this earthly life Friday, May 2, 2025. He was born April 11, 1950, to the late John Russell France and Annie Rachel Martin France in Martinsville, Virginia.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Karen France Draper.

After graduation, Kenneth attended Ferrum College and Emery & Henry College. He was drafted into the military and proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps. He was employed as a Juvenile Probation Officer for the City of Martinsville for 25 years. He enjoyed the martial arts and weight lifting. During his leisure time Kenneth could be found immersed in a good book, often spending time at the local library. He had a large personality and never met a stranger. His kindness and large heart made him a friend to everyone with whom he crossed paths. But his gentleness toward strangers paled in comparison to the deep love he showed his family, enjoying every moment he spent with them.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 32 years, Mary Bailey France; daughters, Annie Rachel France, Betty Katherine Hairston, Sheryl Lynn Montrief (James); grandchildren, Georgianna Hairston, Corey Hairston, Iris Hairston, Stephen Hooker, Ashley Martin; eight great-grandchildren; nephew, Christopher Draper (Michelle); two great-grand nephews; brother-in-law, Abe Draper; and numerous friends.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held Friday, May 9, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Wright Funeral Service Chapel with Rev. A.C. Palmer officiating. Military Honors will be presented by The Martinsville & Henry County Veterans Honor Guard.
