Obituaries

Margaret (Ann) Wells Meeks, 79, 0f Martinsville, passed Thursday, January 2, 2024. She was born January 21, 1945, to the late William R. and Margaret Bennett Wells. She was retired from DuPont and later from Figsboro General Store as Manager. Ann was a faithful member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church where she played piano since age 14. Ann and her husband were well known for their love of gospel music, and she was the pianist for the Quartet known as The Spiritulaires, in which her husband Shelburn also sung bass. In addition to her parents, Ann was preceded in death by her husband, Shelburn Eugene Meeks.

Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law: Michael Lewis and Teri Meeks, two daughters and a brother-in-law: Susan Shuford and Nicole McCambridge and her husband Myron, one brother, William “Bobby” Wells, Jr., one sister, Peggy Wells McGhee, six grandchildren; Nathan Shuford, Matthew Meeks, Austin Brackney, Ashley Murray, Shelly Ann Meeks and Danielle Maxey, and five Great-Grandchildren, Winston Minter, Lucy Brackney, Evelyn Brackney, Elliott Murray and Henry Murray

The family will receive friends from 6-8P.M. Thursday, January 09, 2025, at Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church, and Funeral services will be held 1:00 P.M. Friday, January 10, 2025, at Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church with Pastor Steve Weeding officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Burial Park. The family will receive friends again one hour prior to services beginning at 12:00 Noon for those unable to attend the Thursday Visitation time.

The family has requested in lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Martinsville-Henry Co. SPCA 132 Joseph Martin Hwy, Martinsville, VA. 24112 or the American Alzheimer's Association.
