Obituaries

Maxine Vessia Gilbert, 67, of Fieldale, Virginia passed away Monday, December 30, 2024. She was born December 19, 1957, in Martinsville, Virginia to the late Nelson John Preston and Alice Lee Tinsley Preston.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Viola Draper, Rose France, Arlene Reynolds, Margaret Tinsley; brothers, William Wade, Joe L. Preston, Sam Willie Preston, Clarence Preston, and David Preston; paternal grandparents, Richard Watkins and Rosa Bell Martin; and maternal grandparents, Allen Tinsley and Clara Tinsley.

Maxine attended Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church. She enjoyed cooking any chance she got. Maxine loved her family, especially her fourteen grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren.

She is survived by her loving husband, Daniel Gilbert; daughters, Caredene E. Jamison (Julius), Kenyonna L. Carter, Danielle L. Gilbert; sisters, Frances King, Pastor Carolyn Belcher (Bishop Gerald), Janie Preston, Lessie Stockton, Barbara Ann Hollard, Rosie Tinsley; mother in law, Adrene Cox; father in law, William Gilbert; sister in laws, Doretha Jones and Carrie Spencer; brother in laws, Kenneth Gilbert, Benjamin Gilbert, and Steven Gilbert (Marilou Gilbert).

The funeral will be held on Monday, January 6, 2025 , at 12:00 PM at Wright Funeral Service Chapel with Benjamin Redd officiating. Interment will follow at Carver Memorial Gardens. A visitation will be held 30 minutes prior.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Bishop Belcher, Pastor Belcher, and Julius Jameson.
