Michael Gene Joyce, 79, of Axton, VA passed away on Saturday, December 10, 2022. He was born on September 14, 1943, in Martinsville, VA to the late Robert Leonard Joyce, Sr. and Queenie Martin Joyce. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his daughter, Sherry Spencer; brother, James L. Joyce; sisters, Marjorie Anderson, Gertrude “Tootsie” Purdy, and Aileen Bryant.

Gene loved doing mission work and was a member of Rich Acres Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife Gloria “Jeanne” Joyce; son, Kelly Joyce (Dee) of Axton, VA; daughters, Deborah Blankenship (Mark) of Martinsville, VA, and Michele Handy (Daniel) of Axton; grandchildren, Brittany Joyce, Matt Swinney, Cody Swinney, Rylee Joyce, and Reid Joyce; great-grandchildren, C.J. Swinney and Walker Swinney; brothers, Robert L. Joyce, Jr. of Axton, VA, and Donald Joyce (Peggy) of Axton, VA; and sister, Dorothy Hairfield of Axton, VA.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 13, 2022, at Norris Funeral Services. The Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 14, 2022, at Norris Funeral Services with Pastor Gary Hughes officiating. Burial will follow the service at Roselawn Burial Park.
