Penny Dull Byrd, 67, of Bassett, Virginia, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. She was born on Born on November 29, 1957, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Harry Dull and Lottie Jordan Dull.

Penny was a devoted member of Fort Trial Christian Church and lived a life full of energy, love, and service. She retired after 30 years as a teacher with Henry County Public Schools, teaching Marketing. She enjoyed staying active through exercise and golf, found joy in yard work, and took great pride in supporting and spending time with her grandchildren in all their activities.

Penny is survived by her loving husband, Stephen Byrd; her son, Phillip Byrd, and his wife, Sara; and her cherished grandchildren, Cole Byrd and Molly Byrd. She is also survived by her sister, Sherry Compton (Dave Foss); her brother, Ricky Dull (Cathy); and her nieces, Andrea, Kristin, DeAnna; and nephew, Stuart. Penny will also be missed by many cousins, extended family members, and friends who loved her dearly.

Penny’s positivity left a lasting impression on everyone she met. Her kind heart, thoughtful nature, and caring spirit made her a light in the lives of all who knew her.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, May 10, 2025, at Fort Trial Christian Church, from 11:00am to 12:00pm. A Celebration of Life will follow with Pastor Danny Hart, officiating.
